Email me your goals for the week.  We have an Awards Assembly tomorrow at 9 am.  Please be here (dress nice) by 8:50 am.  Do not leave after the assembly until we get our class photo taken.  We do not have class tomorrow afternoon. You will not attend the Career Center on Wednesday.  We do not have class on Friday.

The end of school letter and samples of your work (assigned last Monday) will be due on Thursday!

Before you leave today, please tell me if you will be returning to my class next year.  I will be announcing those students who plan on returning during the class presentation.  All students in my class will be called down to the front and then I will present you individually with your Brainbench and WorkKeys certificates.  I will also announce outstanding and perfect attendance as well as if you earned college credit, participated in state BPA contest, and if you plan to return to class next year or attend college.  If you have questions about the Awards Assembly, please ask.  This year we will not be giving outstanding student awards but will present the awards mentioned above.

When you have completed the end of year Wall Poster, please let me know so we can start printing them!

Need a project idea?  Sunday is Mother’s Day.  You could make an 8.5″ x 11″ print with a photo and quote then drop by Walmart and pick up a frame and you will have a personalized gift ready to present to your mother on Sunday! Ask me about printing an 8″ x 10″ print instead of 8.5″ x 11″ print since you might have better luck finding a frame that size.

Photos from the NTHS Ceremony on Monday are now posted on the school Facebook page in the NTHS Alva 2014 album.

Thursday ~ 4.24.14

Remember to submit your time sheets along with the printed list of new work  and projects added to your website this week.  If you get your website updated and list of new work printed out and the two assignments from yesterday completed…. then you may work on a project but only if you post the project on your projects page of your website and blog!

Reminder…. no class tomorrow!

The following two assignments were posted on yesterday’s blog.  I am posting again in case you did not get them both submitted yesterday.  The assignments will count as grades and are due by the end of class today.

Assignment 1:  ARE YOU GUILTY OF USING ALL CAPS IN YOUR WORK?  IF SO, PLEASE READ THIS ARTICLE “ALL CAPS: TO SET OR NOT TO SET” BY FONTS.COM.   As a quiz for today, email me the following: 1) When is it acceptable to use all caps in a design such as a poster or brochure? 2) Should you use all caps in the body or main message of a poster or brochure?

Assignment 2:  Mr. Slater wants to hear from you!  Please answer the following questions regarding Oklahoma education.  Email me your answers.

1.  What is the  purpose of education, specifically through the typical high school years?  You may have multiple responses.  Responses should address the question, “What good for whom?”.  Answers should be focused on student conditions that change as a result of education, not an explanation of school activity.

2.  How good is our pre-K – 12th grade educational experience and how do we know?  As you answer this question, please focus on tangible evidence, preferably with comparables in time or location.  Multiple data sources may be included and may provide different answers about different aspects of our school system.  You  may include CareerTech, charter schools, etc. if you wish to round out your explanation of the response. To the extent possible, tie your answers to the purpose statements you identify in Question 1.

3.  If you make a case that our system needs to improve, what are the challenges that must be addressed?  If you make a case that our system is satisfactory, what are the challenges to maintaining this quality?  To the extent possible, respond on issues that are within the control of the system so solutions can be considered.

4.  What are some reforms or conditions that can either improve or maintain our system?
